In the age of film, panoramic photography was a specialist technique, involving expensive dedicated equipment. With the advent of the digital cameras and techniques for stitching images together using software, this has become much more accessible. Now, with high quality cameras in smartphones, producing excellent quality panoramic photos has never been easier!
For best result with very wide angle shots, it great to stand facing the centre of the shot, then twist at the waist as far as possible to one side to start your panorama. Then pan carefully and steadily through the full arc of your scene as you take the photo, to end up twisting from the waist in the opposite direction to complete the exposure. With practise, it’s possible to produce panoramas the cover nearly 360 degrees with this technique.
I hope you enjoy looking at these shots of mine from a recent holiday in Greece.
Happy panning!
